Disruption of NPP rallies: Party spokesperson slams VPP
Shillong, Apr 9: The National People’s Party (NPP) has criticised the Voice of the People Party (VPP) for spreading politics of hate in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, NPP spokesperson Himalaya M Shangpliang said the VPP has failed to convince the people with its hollow vision.
The response is a day after the VPP supporters disrupted election campaigns of the NPP held at Umsning in Ri Bhoi district, Mairang in Eastern West Khasi Hills, Jaiaw and Rynjah in Shillong.
The NPP spokesperson said, “We strongly condemn the action of the VPP and its supporters for disrupting our election campaigns and for also using foul and filthy languages against our candidate.”
He said the party is seeking the immediate intervention of the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the leadership of the VPP for disrupting election campaigns of the NPP.
“This goes to prove that the VPP is getting frustrated with the poor response it is getting from the people. The VPP has failed to convince the people with its hollow vision. Therefore, it is resorting to violence, intimidation and disruption of election meetings of the NPP,” Shangpliang said.
“Yesterday’s incidents are also a clear indication that the VPP realises that their allegations are not working against the NPP, that is why now they are trying to flex their muscles against us. NPP leader from Mawryngkneng Pyniaid Sing Syiem had pointed out that the VPP is trying to inject the West Bengal virus in this election as these incidents only prove that it can no longer hide the fact that it is the B Team of the TMC,” he said.
Shangpliang demanded that action should be taken against the VPP because disrupting the election campaign of other political parties is in violation of ECI’s guidelines and objective to conduct a free and fair election.
He said the party will file a complaint against the leadership of VPP because they should take full responsibility if there is any law and order breakdown.
“Unfortunately, these are the same people who are preaching about clean politics but their actions say otherwise. Ardent must practice what he preaches and stop misguiding our peace-loving people with his double standard politics,” Shangpliang added.
Prestone unhappy
National People’s Party (NPP) state president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday termed the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP)’s attempt to disrupt the party’s election campaigns as a desperate act because they know they are losing the election.
“I don’t know why these people look so desperate. Is it because they know that they are losing or I don’t know for what, why should they act very desperately like this? Their behaviour says like that,” Tynsong told reporters.
