Shillong, April 24: The three district councils (ADCs) have opposed the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
Addressing a press conference on Monday after a joint meeting of the KHADC, the JHADC and the GHADC, the KHADC chief executive member,Titosstarwell Chyne said that the councils will pass a resolution to oppose the UCC.
“We have unanimously decided that we will jointly pass a resolution that implementation of UCC in the Sixth Schedule area will be totally opposed and we will also pass a resolution in our respective councils soon regarding this matter,” Chyne said.
According to council chiefs, as the Centre is planning UCC for the entire country, it will directly have an impact on the powers and functions of the councils especially with the customs, traditional practices and others.
