Drugs,cash siezed in city

Shillong, Feb 23: The Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Meghalaya conducted a raid on the residential premises of notorious drug supplier Rahul Chhetri at Lower Rynjah, here. Upon search of the premises as per NDPS Act ,the team recovered and seizedĀ 2060 nitrazepam tablets worth Rs. 8,24,000 in the illegal market, 23 plastic soap boxes containing suspected heroin (total weight 237gms.) worth Rs.47,40,000 in the illegal market and cash of Rs.27,300.

The main accused Rahul Chhetri managed to flee in a vehicle (ML-10B-5347 upon the arrival of police and is still at large. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case and they are suspected to be part of larger organised crime syndicate operating inter state drug trafficking nexus. The team of ANTF is investigating the matter for forward and backward linkages, the police said.

“If any person has any information about the accused, his accomplices or any miscreants involved in drug trafficking, the information may be shared with Meghalaya ANTF. The identity will be kept secret and a suitable reward will be given to such volunteers, the SP said. By bbsOn February 20, a team of ANTF, Meghalaya Police, Shillong, received information that one person, Wanbor Kharpran, would be coming towards the same to Shillong Bypass to hand over an consignment of contraband.

Accordingly, the ANTF team checked o the Shillong Bypass Road near ISBT Shillong and detained him while travelling in a Maruti 800 vehicle bearing Registration No. ML-05-K-7414. Upon search conducted as per due legal procedure, two plastic boxes containing suspected contraband (heroin) were recovered from his possession, weighing a total of 22.14 grams.

The accused person, along with the seized contraband and vehicle, has been handed over to Mawlai police station for further investigation and necessary legal action.

Further investigation is underway. ANTF is also examining forward and backward linkages to ascertain any possible inter-state nexus related to the case.
