Education Commission holds first meeting

Shillong, Aug 3: The first meeting of the state  education commission was held on Thursday.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated the office of the commission at the MBoSE office in the city.


Education Minister Rakkam Sangma, Chairperson of the Commission Prof SM Sungoh and other members were present.

The next meeting of the commission will be held on September 1.

Sungoh said a presentation was made on the status of education in the state.

“We have called for documents on the education scenario in the state and hence fixed the next meeting on September 1”, Sungoh said.

Besides the terms of reference of the commission, the first meeting also discussed about the state and national education policies.

“The education sector in Meghalaya has accumulated many challenges over the years and we are positive that the Meghalaya State Education Commission comprising a few of the best minds in the state can together work out a practical solution to overcome these challenges”, the chief minister said.
