In a statement, the sports department said on Friday that the team preparation activities are in full swing across the state.

In line with the Chief Minister’s vision of making Meghalaya a sporting powerhouse, the state is making  investments in sports infrastructure, athlete development, and youth engagement.

As part of Meghalaya’s preparation roadmap for the 39th National Games 2027, Rs 40 crore has been sanctioned as phase I to 27 State Sports Associations to strengthen team preparation and athlete development across disciplines. At the core of this approach is the government’s trust-based model of empowering the associations with operational autonomy, recognising their domain expertise and close understanding of sport-specific requirements.

This support has enabled the associations to independently procure sports equipment, appoint coaches and support staff, and organise discipline-specific training camps.

As a result, around 2,000 athletes are currently undergoing structured training across the state, supported by improved infrastructure, newly recruited coaches, and enhanced access to equipment, with the objective of ensuring a strong performance at the National Games, the department said.
