EKH reports one death, damages
Shillong,May 13: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued status of damages reported in East Khasi Hills, on Friday.
While one person died due to landslide in Jongksha village, damages were reported in parts of the district.
The following are the incidents that occurred due to heavy rainfall as released by DDMA.
1. Flood at Demseiniong (Wahumkhrah river)
Due to heavy rainfall, Wahumkhrah river, flowing along Demseiniong was flooded. Instruction was given to PWD, SDRF & Police to initiate immediate assessment of the situation and necessary action to avoid any further damage and inconvenience.
2.Partial collapse of guard wall of BSF premises, Umpling
The guard wall of the BSF compound at Umpling was partially damaged as it collapsed due to the heavy rainfall. No casualty was reported. The concerned Block Development Officer, MUDA, were instructed to assess the degree of the damage.
3. Wall collapsed at Block-C Madanriting
A wall in Madanriting Block-C was reported to have collapsed, leaving the debris spilling to an adjacent premises of the Madan Hindi Patshala School. No casualty was reported. The concerned Block Development Officer, MUDA, P.WD and police were deputed to take immediate necessary action.
4. Landslide at Pynursla Road
Landslide occurred at Pynursla Road and the NHIDCL has cleared the debris.
5. Flood at Hubert Memorial School, Umpling
Flood occurred at the Hubert Memorial School, Secondary School, Umpling and PWD was deputed to take necessary action.
6. Landslide at Mawkynrew Block
Landslide occurred at Jongksha village, Mawkynrew Block, wherein one person identified as Sidres K. Sahnoh around 43 years of age, son of Rosila K. Sahnoh, was reported dead. A team from P.W.D, the Block Development Officer & Police were deputed to take necessary action.
