Shillong, June 27: VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh has said everything has a context but ‘we will defend strongly for secularism, pluralism, federalism, democracy, rights of the indigenous people and clean politics’.
This was in response to a query on whether the VPP MP Ricky AJ Syngkon can abstain from Parliament in future when important decisions are taken.
There were debates as to why the first time Shillong MP should abstain from voting for the Lok Speaker’s post.
Moreover, national media channels had reported that Syngkon either voted for the NDA candidate during the election of the Lok Sabha Speaker or he was approached by the BJP to vote for the NDA nominee.
However, the VPP president Ardent Basaiawmoit has made it clear it was not true and added that the party will seek a clarification from the news channels.
The news channels are yet to give any clarification regarding the matter.
Earlier, giving reason for the decision of the VPP MP to abstain from voting, Ardent had said there should have been a consensus on the Speaker’s post.
