Shillong, June 15: Master Nongrum, ex- headman of Nongpyrdi and the beneficiaries have clarified that many had benefitted from the water shed projects in the area under Mawkynrew Block.
The clarification came after documents as per RTI query revealed that only two- Master and Brian Nongrum -had benefitted from the projects.
However, addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Master said money was transferred to the accounts of the beneficiaries and cash was given to those who did not have bank accounts .
From 2015 to 21 , there were 87 beneficiaries.
According to Master, many initiatives, including checkdam, were taken up.
Earlier, the findings of the RTI query were that under the programme from 2011-12 to 2019-20, Rs 13, 53,036 was sanctioned for various projects which are being implemented by the Soil and Water Conservation department.
Louis Dohtdong, president of Hynniewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM), had alleged that the then Rangbah Shnong had resorted to corruption and deprived the villagers of their rights.
