The sister of Marngar, who does not wish to be identified, said the masked men assaulted the victim following an incident at Umshyrpi Bridge on January 20.

According to the sister,  on January 20, some miscreants had stopped vehicles belonging to Marngar at Umshyrpi Bridge and demanded money but when he intervened, a scuffle erupted.

She said Chairmingstar received a phone call from the president of KSU who had asked him to come to the union’s office to discuss the incident.

“Since we thought that the KSU office is a safe place for any local to visit, me and my brother, we went to their office on January 28, as per the invitation but upon reaching the office my brother was escorted upstairs and was beaten up mercilessly by masked people,” the sister said.

She alleged that she tried to intervene but was stopped by the masked people and all she could do was cry helplessly.

The family member condemned the attack on Chairmingstar and asked the police to do the needful and arrest all those involved since an FIR has been lodged.
