Farmers meet Ampareen on pending issues

Shillong, July 29: Deduction of agricultural produce in the markets, delay in getting benefits under FOCUS scheme of the government and insurance of crops were the concerns raised by the farmers who met Agriculture Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, on Tuesday.

Lyngdoh told reporters that despite her efforts to address the issue of deduction of agriculture produce, there has been no response for over a year and a half.

He wanted the KHADC to address the matter.

The minister will take up the pending issues related to the farmers with the chief minister.

Earlier, Lyngdoh came out of her office and met farmers at the State Central Library premises after they were not allowed to gather in large numbers in front of the Secretariat due to prohibitory orders.

The farmers, under the banner of the Hill Farmers Union (HFU), arrived at the Secretariat to submit their grievances to the minister.
However, authorities restricted their entry into the Secretariat, allowing only the leaders to meet with the minister.
