Father wants son to return to prison

Shillong,June 26: The father of convict Shiningstar Pala, who had escaped from Jowai jail and reached home at Wahiajer, East Jaintia Hills, wanted his son to return to prison resulting in police taking him into custody.
“The family wanted him to be back to jail after he reached home on Saturday, hence he was under a sort of ‘house arrest” and later they handed him over to the police”, a police official said on Sunday.
According to the police, after he escaped from the jail, he was in East Khasi Hills and then went back to Jaintia Hills.
“He was tracked purely on human intelligence and we had alerted the family to inform us about his wherabouts. His own father, maternal uncle and in-laws helped us to get him back”, the official added.
Later he was taken to Ummulong beat house.
The reason cited by him to escape was that he was tired of prison life since he is facing life imprisonment.
Pala was convicted for murdering his minor brother-in-law in 2018.
He escaped from Jowai prison on June 22 after he was taken out to wash an ambulance.
The driver of the ambulance had also asked Pala to pluck squash (piskot) for him and he escaped through a collapsed portion of the prison wall.
The police at the watchtower could not detect his movement
The next day, the ambulance driver, Anish Swer was suspended.
The jail authorities have moved the PWD for repair of the collapsed boundary wall.
