Shillong, Oct 25: Just two days remaining for campaigning to end, festivity marked several rallies for the bypolls in East Khasi Hills.
On Monday, a visit to Mawphlang revealed that the people gathered for the election rallies enjoyed the oratory skills of the speakers as they responded with applause and cheers.
During the election rally for the UDP candidate Eugeneson Lyngdoh, the party leaders, T Chyne, Paul Lyngdoh, Nujorki Sungoh besides HSPDP leader KP Pangniang among others urged the voters to elect the son of late UDP associate member SK Sunn to complete his unfinished task.They termed the bypoll as a semifinal for the general elections in 2023.
To break the monotony of the speeches, a lady supporter of the party danced as the song, drumming up support for the pary, was played. More crowd gathered to watch the dancer and mobile phones reached out to her to capture the moment.
The evening rally also witnessed the presence of many children taking the front row while others sat with their parents.
Earlier, in the compound of a house adjacent to the venue of the rally, a child was seen running with a party flag along with other children.
Later, as the rally ended, the crowd danced to the tune of a recorded song as the party leaders joined for the hospitality of a supporter.
Only a few were wearing masks despite Covid protocols.
Earlier on Saturday, in a similar way, the supporters of the Congress in Mawryngkneng, showed the same enthusiasm by dancing after the culmination of the rally.
