Fire ravages residence of first CM’s son in Tura

House part of heritage complex

Shillong, March 25: A fire broke out at the residence of former Tura MDC Panseng Ch Momin,  the son of state first Chief Minister, Captain Williamson A Sangma, in Hawakhana, Tura, on Tuesday morning.

The house was part of the historic complex associated with the state’s political legacy.

Fire personel were engaged to douse the fire  According to eyewitnesses, the flames spread rapidly, posing threat to adjacent structures within the heritage complex. The cause of the fire is yet to be known and the officials have not assessed the extent of the damage.

The incident has raised concerns about the preservation of state’s historical and political heritage. Late Captain Sangma’s ancestral home stands as a symbol of the state’s journey towards autonomy and self-governance.
