
Shillong, June 8: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Thursday admitted the mistake by its personnel for entering the border village Rongara in South Garo Hills, on Wednesday .
The BSF IG Meghalaya Frontier, Pradip Kumar said a flag meeting was held and the commander of the BGB assured to take action against their two men for illegally entering the village.
The BGB official informed the BSF that it was a mistake committed by the two personnel.
Villagers were seen chasing the two BGB personnel in a video shared on several social media platforms.
The incident was on Wednesday afternoon.
The BSF IG assured protection to the people of the village.
“The village is very close to the zero line and we have asked our personnel to keep vigil”, the IG said.
Local MLA takes up issue
Rongara-Siju representive and cabinet minister Rakkam Sangma said he will speak to the Director General of Police and the BSF officials to ensure the safety of the villagers.
“There are around 80 villagers residing in the area close to the international border and we will ensure that there is no more intrusion”, the minister said.
