Weisawdong (Sohra), June 5: The rescuers from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are facing challenges because of the weather and the terrain.
One of the NDRF members told Meghalaya Monitor that the visibility is low and that is hindering the search operation.
“We cannot see more than 50m ahead because of the fog and thick foliage,” said the rescuer.
The rain has also made the ground wet and slippery. “Rappling is becoming difficult in this situation. The stones are also slippery,” he said.
The thick foliage in the gorge and the three-layered ridge are also slowing down the operation.
There are approximately 20 NDRF members who have been working alongside the 13 SDRF rescuers since June 2.
The search operation is being carried out in a 500m radius. “We are carrying out extensive search. In some places, the drone could not reach owing to thick bushes, we are sending our rescuers. We are using a 1,500m rope to send our men down,” said the NDRF member.
The rescuers have been divided into three teams after analysing the area where the body of Raja Raghuvanshi was found.
