Shillong, May 16: Police in East Jaintia Hills seized 51 kg ganja on Tuesday.
Police checked a vehicle with Assam registration at Damcherra, Umkiang around 6 pm.
The vehicle was coming from Assam towards Khliehriat. Ganja was found concealed inside the vehicle.
Earlier in the day, a couple was arrested with heroin at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills.
This was following a checking carried out near the police station along NH 06 .
A tourist bus (AS 01 LC 7641) was stopped during the checking.
During the search of the bus one lady, Lhingneivah Singson (35) was found to be one of the passengers along with her husband Lalroho Hmar (38).
Further, after observing all formalities under NDPS Act and in the presence of independent witnesses, a body search was conducted and 6 soap cases were found concealed in her body, each soap case containing a transparent plastic with yellowish orange powder, East Jaintia Hills SP Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said.
Preliminary test was conducted on the suspected contraband and the test gave positive results for heroin and the total weight was found to be 65.92 grams, he said.
Cash amount of Rs 5,000 and one Nokia phone were also seized from their possession.
