Shillong, Mar 27: The Meghalaya Age will organise a two-day festival showcasing the Garo culture and tradition in New Delhi.
The festival, monikered Maniani (celebration in English), will be held on April 8-9 at Rajiv Gandhi Handicrafts Bhavan in the Capital. The works of three prominent Garo personalities — Arak Sangma, Christine G Momin and Dominic Sangma — will be featured in the festival.
Arak, an artiste, uses traditional sustainable measures to create art. He will celebrate “the bull which brings back his childhood memories of making them from jackfruit leaves”, according to the state Tourism Department’s statement.
Christine, another multi-talented artiste from Garo Hills, will showcase Garo Hills’ nature through her collection inspired by bottle gourd.
Besides, the festival will also feature national award-winning director Dominic. His film, Ma.AMA, will be screened. The film depicts the Garo filial bonds and is a poetic rendition of an octogenarian’s lonely life.
