Shillong, Sept 19: Tura MDC Bernard Marak has informed that the Executive Committee of the GHADC finally agreed to pay the salary of the council employees as per the recommendation of the 5th pay commission.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Marak said the council had to consider the fact the notification was issued by the previous NPP Executive Committee and the present Executive Committee has approved its implementation taking all the risks. “I express my gratitude to the CEM and his team of Executive Members for taking a bold step. It is the duty of all the elected members to look into the welfare of the council and its employees. With the 5th pay commission in execution, it is an uphill task for GHADC but united effort would sort out all obstacles. Therefore, NPP alone cannot solve issues faced by GHADC, BJP is ruling in the Centre. Moreover, Agreed Text for Settlement signed by ANVC groups is a key to strengthen the ADCs in the state”, Marak added.
Garo Hills Day
Marak informed that 155th Garo Hills Day will be celebrated on September 24 in Tura. It is the same date when ANVC and ANVC.B sealed the settlement to strengthen ADCs in Meghalaya.” It was planned accordingly to coincide the two events on the same date so that the lost history of the Garos can be revived. The Garo Hills Act of 1869 was assented by the Governor General which excluded the Garo Hills from zamindari system by establishing an independent district for the Garos. It is a day Garos gained freedom from the Zamindari system and the regular regulations during the British rule. Garo Hills Day is a red letter day for the Garos. Garos should celebrate this day with utmost joy and pride. I am one of the signatories of the agreement for strengthening the ADCs and also elected BJP MDC of Tura so it will be celebrated in my constituency. Prominent singers from Tura like Wanda Manda, Silberth, Noga, Sheryl, and others will be performing in the 155th Garo Hills Day celebration, he said.
