Shillong, Mar 18: With a month left for the Lok Sabha elections, a WhatsApp message under the sender name Viksit Bharat is doing the rounds,
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Trinamool Congress’s Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale said, “People not just in India but around the world (who visited India) have been spammed in the last 2 days with this “Viksit Bharat” Whatsapp message promoting Modi & BJP.”
He further wrote that WhatsApp claimed the number belonged to the IT ministry.
“What database was used in this? Why are messages being sent violating code of conduct?Min @AshwiniVaishnaw must answer how his Ministry is illegally running a BJP campaign using state machinery despite the code of conduct, ” Gokhale posted.
The WhatsApp message had a PDF of a letter from the prime minister that said the letter was sent by the Narendra Modi-led government.
A social media user, @MyMarshal10, wrote, “The IT ministry must be sent a legal notice for breaching the Model code of conduct by the Election Commission, if he gets time after attending MUSHAIRAS. Also, BJP has already done its part to reach out to everyone’s door. Such messages do not remind anything NEW to the citizens about the current government of which they are unaware of.”
