Gold biscuits recovered in Ri Bhoi ahead of polls

Shillong, Jan 22: The police in Ri Bhoi recovered gold biscuits at Umsning junction.

Police said that on Saturday while carrying out checking at Umsning Junction as part of model code of conduct , one silver grey alto 800 vxi b/r no.AS 01DT 6749 was stopped and five suspected gold biscuits were recovered from the possession of one person identified as Sahidul Islam. The recovered suspected gold strips were seized on the spot along with the vehicle and the matter was informed to District Election Officer ( DEO) for necessary action. Later, the seized items were weighed by Binsing Kharphuli of B Kharphuli Jewelers, in the presence of the magistrate (Assistant Returning Officer- ARO Elections) and independent witnesses. The total weight of the seized gold is 570 gm worth Rs  30 lakh . On completion of weight and measurement, the seized items were packed and sealed and videographed in the presence of ARO, Additional  SP, Ri Bhoi and witnesses and kept at PS Malkhana for safe custody for further action by the Office of DEO, Ri Bhoi district.

Over Rs 10 lakh seized in EJH.

Police on January 19 made three seizures worth Rs 10.72 lakh in Umkiang under Sutnga Saipung constituency.

The unaccounted cash was seized with the presumption that it will be used for influencing the voters, police said.

Liquor seizure 

On Saturday night, raids were conducted  by Ribhoi district police at Nongpoh, Wahlakhar, Rajabagan, Mawhati, Byrnihat, Kyrdeng, Umiam Pilangkata, Patharkhmah and Baridua areas and seized IMFL 9.915 ltrs and  country made illicit liquor of 81.5 ltrs , a  total of 91.415 ltrs.

South West Khasi Hills district police also  seized 105 litrs of illicit liquor on Sunday at  Gomaghat.
