Mahila Congress asks police to act against culprits

Shillong, Aug 26: Goons looted a 17-year-old student at knife-point in Nongthymmai.

The incident was near the Aprilia showroom at Lumiawblot, Nongthymmai, when the girl, Shellyza Dkhar, was returning from Auxilium School around 2.33 pm on Monday (August 25).

The FIR filed by her mother, Iarilang Dkhar, indicated that the miscreants, assisted by three accomplices, searched the victim’s school bag and pockets before taking away Rs 300.

The student, who was sent for medical examination at Civil Hospital, Shillong, was released after first aid.

Police have registered a case, and the area was visited by the police personnel.

Efforts are on to analyse CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the culprits,  the police said.

Concerned over similar incidents, the Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress president, Joplyn Shylla, expressed concern over the rising incidents of school-going children being stabbed
, robbed, and attacked in the streets of Shillong by drug addicts.

“This alarming situation not only threatens the safety of our children but also creates fear and insecurity among parents and the community at large”, she said.

She urged the government to treat this matter with top priority and utmost seriousness.

“Immediate action must be taken to ensure the safety of our children by strengthening law and order, intensifying anti-drug measures, and providing rehabilitation for those struggling with addiction. The future of our children and the safety of our society must never be compromised”, she added.
