Shillong, Jan 26: The state government has directed the deputy commissioners to activate the Village Defence Parties ( VDPS) to improve security along the international border.
Governor CH Vijayashankar informed this while addressing the gathering on the 77th Republic Day function held at the Polo Grounds on Monday.

“We are committed to securing the Indo-Bangladesh border and are monitoring the situation, in close coordination with the BSF”, he said.
Assam-Meghalaya border
“We remain committed to fostering peace and security along the Assam–Meghalaya border. Timely intervention by the
The government in Lapangap village, West Jaintia Hills district, prevented the
situation from any further escalation, due to which our farmers were able to
complete the harvest of their crops”, he said.
During the last year, the overall law and order situation in the state was peaceful. In the past year, various festivals of the state, including national day celebrations, were conducted peacefully, he said.
Second fastest growing state
The governor claimed that Meghalaya is the second fastest growing state in India after Tamil Nadu, recording an impressive 9.66% real GSDP growth in the financial year 2025, nearly double the rate from 2018. It is the only state to consistently maintain an average 10% real GSDP growth for three consecutive years post the COVID pandemic.
“By the time Meghalaya achieves 60 years of statehood, we are firmly on course to realising the government’s vision of tripling the size of our economy by 2032, reflecting our commitment to resilient and inclusive development”, the government said.
Roadmap
He said the Meghalaya Excellence Framework is the state’s strategic roadmap to achieve its vision of being among India’s top 10 states in per capita income and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2032. Aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat, the framework focuses on driving investments in critical sectors through public and private partnerships, improving the quality of education and skilling, and creating future-ready infrastructure.
To achieve this ambitious objective, the state government launched Mission 10.
He said Mission 10 began in 2022 when Meghalaya’s GSDP stood at $5 billion, launching a bold strategy built on 10 strategic opportunities and 10 key commitments to elevate the state into India’s top 10 in per capita income and SDG performance by 2032.
“It charts an ambitious economic leap, from $5 billion in 2022 to $10 billion by 2028 and $16 billion by 2032, tripling the state’s economy within a decade. This vision is backed by momentum: since the financial year 2018, Meghalaya’s GSDP has already grown by 102%, doubling in seven years despite pandemic disruptions, he said.
