Shillong, Oct 27: The state has approved the lease of 19.99 acres of land at Mawkhanu, New Shillong, to Northeast United FC for 45 years to establish a football academy.
MDA spokesperson Wailadmiki Shylla told reporters after the cabinet meeting that the proposed investment of Rs 40–50 crore will support the development of three football grounds, accommodation facilities and other infrastructure. The academy will help nurture local talent and prepare young players to compete at higher levels.

The state government will continue supporting grassroots football through Mission Football, its network of approximately 125 grassroots centres and assistance to local clubs. Other clubs with viable proposals will also be encouraged to seek support.
