Shillong, Oct 26: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has assured support to the affected families in the Sitrang cyclone in the state.
Conrad reviewed the situation during a meeting attended by all deputy commissioners of the 12 districts.
“The large area which has been affected is the power supply in different parts of the state. The MeECL has worked overtime and most of the lines have been restored and those which have not been restored we are hopeful that within the next 24 hours we should be able to restore most of the lines,” he said.
NCP legislator from Gambegre Saleng A Sangma has asked the government to provide immediate relief to over 125 families whose houses were damaged by the cyclone.
Saleng said Sitrang cyclone caused a lot of damage in his constituency where around 125 houses have been damaged.
“Out of this, 70-80 houses have been fully damaged,” he said.
The NCP MLA said he has extended some relief to the affected families.
“However, I am asking more from the government and I have talked to the DC and he is asking the account numbers and I have told all my people to give their account numbers so that emergency relief can be sent to them,” he said.
He said 10 kg of rice per household has been given along with cash.
The MLA said crops and other plantations have also been damaged.
