Shillong, May 8: The state government is awaiting the approval of Election Commission of India (ECI) before appointing the new DGP.
An official source said that though the preference of the government is for Idashisha Nongrang, this needs the approval of the ECI.

The model code of conduct is applicable till June 4 the counting day.
DGP LR Bishnoi is retiring on May 19.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had on May 2 recommended three names- Nongrang ( 1992 batch), RP Meena (1993) and Deepak Kumar (1994) for the appointment of Meghalaya DGP.
VPP on Wednesday asked the state government to appoint Nongrang as the new DGP.
The party will submit a petition in this regard to the government on May 9.
