Govt awaits NMC inspection to start Shillong Medical College
Mukul raises concern over delay during Budget Session 2025

Shillong, Mar 3: The state government is awaiting inspection by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to start the Shillong Medical College this academic year.
Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh — while replying to a question by opposition leader Mukul Sangma during the Budget Session 2025 on Monday — said measures are being taken to start the first batch during this academic year, subject to the approval of the NMC.
Sangma raised the concern that there was no clarity on the actual status of the project despite the government’s intention to start the academic session this year.

“We have completed affiliation with the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU),” she said, adding that the Pasteur Hills has been converted into an academic block.
The minister informed that the government was waiting for an inspection by the Commission.
