Shillong, March 3: The state government machinery and the village leaders manipulated the JHADC polls, according to Ardent Basaiawmoit.
Taking part in the discussion on Governor’s address in the Assembly on Monday, Ardent said that there were instances where the village elders supported one particular candidate thereby defeating the purpose of conducting a free and fair election.
Stating that abductions and intimidations were also reported, the VPP MLA said though complaints were lodged about vulnerable polling stations, the election machinery did not act.
He also read out the list of polling stations where one candidate secured abnormally high votes.
The list below
1. Moolamanoh A Polling Station: Out of total valid votes of 609, 593 went to one candidate.
2. Moolamanoh B: Out of 604 total valid votes 589 went to one candidate.
3. In Wapungskur A, out of 782, 656 went to one candidate.
4. In Khlliehriat East A, out of 780 votes, 778 went to one candidate.
5. Khliehriat East B: Out of 872 votes, 862 went to one candidate.
