Shillong, July 20:The state may challenge the back-to-back bail granted to the three accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case by the court of first class judicial magistrate DKK Mihsill.
An official source said that the law department will examine the orders of the court, following which a decision will be taken to challenge the bail orders in the High Court.
The bail granted to Silome James, an accused in the case, on July 18 by the court shocked the prosecution, who had opposed his bail, explaining that he was instrumental in destroying evidence as a pistol, cash and jewelry were recovered from his possession after the prime accused in the murder case, Sonam Raghuvanshi stayed at the flat leased out to the property dealer James by the flat owner Lokendra Tomar, who had also secured bail along with his security guard Balbir Ahirbar, on July 9.
Nobody has moved bail applications for the remaining five accused- Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, Akash Rajput, Vishal Chauhan and Anand Kurmi.
However, sources said efforts were being made by the relatives to move for bail, citing the examples of those who got bail.
The court last week extended their judicial custody for another 14 days.
Police have not charge-sheeted the case.
The relatives had reported the missing case of Sonam and her husband Raja in Sohra (Cherrapunji), on May 23.
On June 2, Raja’s body was recovered from a gorge in the Weisawdong area in Sohra and Sonam surrendered in Ghazipur, UP on June 9, claiming that she was kidnapped, but police arrested her for allegedly plotting her husband’s murder along with others.
