Govt may release restructured grant‑in‑aid by December 31

Shillong, Nov 12: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said the government is keen to introduce a a restructured grant‑in‑aid or salary system by December 31, for implementation from  April 1,2026. Details for deficit teachers will be worked out.

The decision was after a meeting with the delegation of the deficit school teachers’ associations.

Rymbui acknowledged the uncertainty teachers face regarding future salaries, especially with the impending withdrawal of central SSA grants by March 31, 2026.

Teachers currently receive DA at 43 % compared with 51 % for regular government employees.

Rymbui said arrears complicate the issue, and a timeline for resolution is being worked out.

For the centralised Provident Fund, a notification by the government  established a Board of Trustees, chaired by Commissioner & Secretary Vijay Mantri, comprising officials from finance, higher education, school education, and teacher representatives, to formulate the fund’s operational plan.

Teachers requested suspension of the portal for salary bill submission due to technical glitches. Rymbui insisted that M‑SIMS is the way forward and directed the Commissioner & Secretary to ensure that migration issues do not delay salary payments.
