Govt nod to appointment of nominated member in KHADC

Shillong, May 13: The government has given  approval to the proposal of the VPP-led executive committee in the KHADC for appointment of Mathew Makdoh as the nominated member.
“We have met the deputy chief minister in-charge district council affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong on the matter and he has informed us that the government has approved the proposal and very soon a notification will be issued accordingly,” KHADC Executive Member Powel Sohkhlet told reporters after a meeting on Tuesday.
MDC schemes
Sohkhlet said the government assured to convene a meeting of the urban affairs and community & rural development department for resolving the issue relating to distribution of MDC schemes sanctioned under the 15th Finance Commission.
Sohkhlet said the issue is that the village-in both Shillong and Tura which fall under municipal area are not eligible to benefit from the scheme because it is meant for rural areas as per the guidelines of the 15th Finance Commission.
“When we received money from the 15th Finance Commission, the MDCs from urban areas are questioning how can only MDCs from rural areas are getting to implement such schemes. Therefore, we are of the opinion that since the scheme is being implemented through the ADCs, all MDCs should get to implement the scheme in their respective constituencies,” Sohkhlet said.
