Shillong, Aug 28: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Wednesday that the government is examining the need to have a separate district to be carved out of East Khasi Hills, Civil Sub Division for Mawsynram and more community and rural development blocks.
During the Question Hour, Mawsynram MLA Ollan Sing Suin(UDP) explained the reason why Mawsynram should be upgraded to a civil sub division.
Raising a supplementary question, Charles Pyngrope (TMC) wanted to know whether the government will carve out another district from East Khasi Hills.
He also pointed out to the demand for a district from the people of Sohra.
In reply, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said these are at the various stages of examination by the government.
Tynsong added that he is open to creation of more districts, civil sub divisions and blocks.
