Govt open to independent probe into Bernard case

Shillong,July 25: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the government is not averse to have an independent probe into the criminal activities of Tura BJP MDC Bernard Marak.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Tynsong said, “Right now I can’t say anything. We have an investigation by the police and later if it all it is required, the government can go for an Independent probe”.
To the allegation by Bernard that the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had ordered police to gun him down, Tynsong wanted the MDC to lodge a complaint with the police instead of making baseless allegations.
Tynsong ruled out withdrawing charges against Bernard as demanded by BJP state chief Ernest Mawrie.
“Let the law take its own course”, Tynsong said adding that the government will not interfere with the police investigation.
He also added that there was no political conspiracy to malign Bernard.
On the delay in raiding the farm house, the deputy chief minister said the police were building up a case and hence it took time.
