“It is a continuous process. As and when the government receives representation from various constituencies for creation of new blocks, the government will take a call on that,” Mondal told reporters on Thursday.

Mondal said the intention of the government is to bring administration closer to the doorstep of the people and block is one of the offices which provide support to the masses at the grassroot level.

“New proposals keep coming but as of now we have not decided that new blocks should be created because we first want to see that whatever blocks that have been created till date are made functional as early as possible and after that we will consider creation of new blocks,” Mondal said.

Till date, the government received  five proposals from different organisations for creation of new blocks.

AMPT road

Mondal, who is also the Phulbari legislator said that the stretch of AMPT road from Agia to Phulbari can be converted into a national highway.

“I have already discussed with the deputy chief minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong and he has given hope that this stretches will be taken up with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to convert the road into a national highway,” Mondal said.

He said the stretch from Agia to Phulbari, which is around 75 km, should also be declared as a four-lane road besides naming it as 127(B) extension.

He said the road also meets all the strategic requirements as far as the national highway is concerned.

“It is passing towards the international border so it becomes a strategic location and it takes us to the national capital Delhi, if we want to drive, it takes us to the capital of Assam and Meghalaya. Therefore, this will be a fit case for national highways,” he said.

Mondal added that the road covers three constituencies of Meghalaya and three of  Assam
