Shillong, Oct 2:The police have stopped illegal coal mining in the Krem Langshait forest under Lum Bangla village in East Jaintia Hills.
The action comes after VPP MLA from Mawlai Brightstarwell Marbaniang visited the site on September 27.
Later on October 1, the MLA visited Khliehriat to meet the Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar.
When contacted, the SP said a case was registered against illegal mining, and the investigation was on.
“We have also stopped the mining activities”, he said.
The MLA had expressed displeasure as the SP could not meet him.
When asked, the SP said, “Due to some administrative obligations and Puja-related matters, I could not meet the MLA. I have respect for him, and the Additional SP was there for any assistance”.
