Shillong, Oct 22:The construction of a permanent Garo Labour Corps Cenotaph in Tura, West Garo Hills district, will begin shortly
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, chairman of the cenotaph committee Marcuise Marak said the design for the permanent structure has been finalised and approved by the committee, and the next step is to lay the foundation stone.
“We are about to start the construction of permanent structures, and the designs are ready. Only because of some procedural lapses, it is taking some time, but very soon we are going to sit for the next meeting and we will lay the foundation stone for the permanent structure,” he said.
The committee has decided to award the construction work to the architect who designed the permanent structure.
Marak said the demolition of the original cenotaph was not done appropriately, affecting the sentiments of the people, which led to the constitution of a committee to oversee the reconstruction.
Marak assured that the chief minister will be present at the foundation stone laying ceremony, and a meeting of the committee will be held shortly to finalise the date
