Shillong,Oct 24: Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai on Friday assured to re-erect a life-size statue of Khasi freedom Tirot Sing in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Shullai told reporters that he wants to discuss the matter with the Indian Embassy in Bangladesh
The minister referred to the earlier incident where a bust of Tirot Sing was dismantled by a crowd in Dhaka.
For Sanbor, the erection of the statue was his personal initiative when he was arts & culture minister in the MDA-I government.
Shullai said even the statue of the father of the nation in Bangladesh was not spared.
The minister has discussed the matter with Commissioner & Secretary F Kharkongor and plans to personally visit the site to oversee the reconstruction of a full-size statue of Tirot Sing.
“We will fix the time and I will go personally to see the site because, we have to reconstruct the full-size statue of the freedom fighter,” he said.
