Govt to go after Legal Rights Observatory on Mahadevkhola incident

Shillong, Aug 4: The home department will go after Legal Rights Observatory (LRO) for  making communal comments on Mahadevkhola incident.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said the government will crack down  leaders of the Legal Rights Observatory (LRO) for trying to spread communal hate.

The LRO recently uploaded a video on the incident of assault of a shop keeper and her son on July 24 at Mahadevkhola.

After she was robbed and assaulted by the miscreants, the LRO uploaded a video and tweeted that the KSU were the ones attacking devotees, priest and women and that the attack was instigated by the Presbyterian Church.

According to Tynsong, he had gone into the details of the incident and found that it was due to small understanding and that it has no religious angle.

“But I have seen in the social media, the LRO had made lots of comments now, I have given instructions to the police, track these people. Who are these people?” he said.

According to Tynsong, the LRO may not be citizens of India as seen from the comments on social media platforms.

“I have seen their comments, I personally feel that they (LRO) are not at all true residents of India. If they are, they cannot just give such an irresponsible statement which ultimately may lead to ethnic clashes which ultimately may lead to religious conflict which is so dangerous,” he said

The KSU had also filed an FIR against the LRO for indulging in hate mongering and spreading false information to the public.
