Shillong, Aug 25: The state government will pay the pending salaries of employees of district Councils from November 1.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced this on Monday after meeting Governor CH Vijayashankar.
A committee has been constituted to work out the implementation details, engaging with all district councils within 45 days.
This decision is after detailed discussions with the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
Conrad said the GHADC faces a significant deficit between revenue and expenditure, with annual salary requirements reaching up to Rs 70 crore, while the revenue does not exceed Rs 30 crore.
Similar financial problems are observed in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and, to some extent, in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), he said.
