Shillong, Nov 19: The state government will bear the expenditure of the injured NEHU students.
Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday visited the two students admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Nazareth Hospital.
They were hit by a speeding car on Monday.
The security agency terminated the service of the guard following the incident.
Dhar informed the government’s decision to ensure full medical coverage for both the students – Daritngen Pohdukhei and Stephanie Shadap.
“It was a very horrifying and tragic incident, The family members have informed the government, and it is the duty of the government to look into the matter, especially when it is related to our youth”, he said told reporters.
“The condition of one of the girls is now stable while the other is still serious”, he said.
He also pointed out the possibility out-of-state referral “If they cannot be treated here within two‑three days, the government will refer them to hospitals outside the state”, he added.
The deputy chief minister informed that the police have arrested the accused person identified as PM Sangma – a security guard responsible for the accident.
The police have registered an attempt to murder case against Sangma, whose medical report indicated that he was intoxicated.
