Shillong, Sept 30: The state cabinet has approved the release of an advance payment of the council’s share of royalties. This advance will help the council clear salary backlogs up to 12 months.
Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the government approved the recommendations of the Committee and Sub-Committee formed to consult with GHADC on issue of payment of salaries. After detailed discussion with the Sub-Committee and the Executive Committee (EC) and a thorough understanding of their needs and concerns, it was decided to release the funds.
“As part of this agreement, the GHADC Executive Committee has also consented to the appointment of an IAS officer as Principal Secretary to the GHADC. The officer will oversee salary disbursements and support financial reforms within the Council. Additionally, it was agreed that the Council will open an escrow account to manage the funds received. This will ensure transparency and to ensure the advance is used specifically for salary payments.
