Govt to spend Rs 40 crore on road resurfacing ahead of National Games

Shillong, Jan 29: The state government will spend Rs 40 crore for road resurfacing ahead of 39th National Games next year.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said “This is part of the preparation for the National Games 2027”

The project involves resurfacing 40-46 kilometers of damaged roads across the city, with an estimated cost of over Rs 40 crore.

He informed that resurfacing of the road in the Laitumkhrah area has already been completed, and similar work is expected to be undertaken in other parts of the city by the last part of 2026.

“We will get all walls and railings painted ,” Dhar said.

The road resurfacing project is a replacement for the earlier Smart Road project, which was scrapped due to feasibility issues.

Dhar said he will convene a meeting with the Sports and Youth Affairs department on Friday to discuss preparations for the National Games.

The meeting, which will be held in the presence of Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, will focus on key issues such as parking lots and the game village.

No decision on Rajya Sabha nomineeĀ 

When asked, Dhar said the MDA has not taken any decision on nomination to Rajya Sabha.
