Govt to spend Rs 50 crore more to uplift Baljek airport

Shillong, Nov 17: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Monday that the government will sanction Rs 50 crore to the Airport Authority of India to develop Baljek airport.

After inaugurating the new building of Jengjal police station, the chief minister said, “We have handed over the Jengjal Airport to the Airport Authority of India earlier this year, and they have submitted a Rs 50 crore estimate to the state government. I am happy to announce here that within this month, the government will sanction Rs 50 crore to the Airport Authority of India so that works can start at the Jengjal Airport,” he said. He said that with the completion of the airport, 19-seater planes of Air Alliance will be operating from Jengjal Airport, with the priority being on Shillong-Tura flights. He also said the government is scouting for land in Jengjal for a permanent site to host mega events.
