Shillong, May 5: The government will take a call on the state’s participation in Cannes following the controversy over selection of names.
Both the tourism and the Information and Public Relations departments had recommended different names to the Centre.
When asked, IPR minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “Participants wanting to participate in the festival went to tourism for the NOC, therefore two departments gave seperate recommendations. That’s where the confusion began”.
While the IPR had recommended the names of Dominic Sangma and Pradip Kurbah, the tourism department wanted Commander Shangpliang and Nicholas Kharkongor to represent the state.
Ampareen said it is sad that one of the participants (Nicholas) has dropped out because of the controversy.
She said the government will take a call on what steps to be taken next.
