Govt yet to decide on restricting entry of tourist taxis from outside
Panels to finalise financial support to councils

Shillong, Aug 29: Commissioner & Secretary in-charge Tourism Cyril Diengdoh said the committee to examine the demands of the tourist taxi associations has made several suggestions including subsidizing parking fees at Guwahati Airport.
Recently, All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTA) protested demanding the government to restrict tourist taxis from outside the state from operating in tourist spots across the state.
In response, the official said that the matter will have to be looked into from all perspectives since there are multiple issues and stakeholders involved.
However, he encouraged the associations to raise any other issues they may have as the government will discuss them accordingly.
Pending salary
Diengdoh said the government will soon notify the three sub-committees to engage with the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) regarding its proposal to provide financial support, including payment of salaries and financial reforms.
Diengdoh said the committees will consult with the district councils and seek their consent before implementing the decision.
“This is something which has to be done in consultation so please await once these committees are notified we will get to know because the terms of referrence would be very clear,” he told reporters on Friday.
The committees will engage with the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) over the next 45 days and submit a report to the state government.
Diengdoh said, “Because of the crisis that is happening now in some of the district councils, where salaries are pending for many months, so government has taken a decision on how this can be resolved in consultation and only after getting the consent of ADCs. That is amply clear.”
