Grand opening ceremony set to officially launch NE Games
Shillong, Nov 9: A glamorous and exciting opening ceremony will be held to officially get the 2nd North East Olympic Games 2022 going at the SAI Training Centre on the NEHU Shillong campus here on Thursday evening.
The majority of the athletes from the visiting states arrived today in Shillong, their home for the next few days. Thousands of man hours have also gone into making the Games a possibility – by the athletes, state government officials, state sports association members, volunteers and other workers – and all this effort will culminate in a grand opening ceremony befitting Meghalaya’s 50th anniversary of Statehood.
The thousands of athletes from Meghalaya and the other seven North East states that are participating in the Games will be present, along with the Chief Guest and Chief Patron of NEOG 2022, the Honourable Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri Conrad K Sangma, Guest of Honour and Chairman of NEOG 2022, the Honourable Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Shri Banteidor Lyngdoh, representatives of the North East Olympic Association, Meghalaya State Olympic Association, other dignitaries and artists.
The athletes will perform the march past, oath taking and witness the lighting of the flame that are traditions of such sporting events and, for their entertainment, there will be a lineup of artistic acts, including the performance of the Games’ official anthem ‘Play’ by Summersalt and other artists from the North East; musical performances by Tarari Choir, Pynter Orchestra and Lamphang Syiemlieh & Ensemble; fireworks display and more!
The opening ceremony will also be streamed live on the 2nd North East Olympic Games 2022’s official YouTube channel.
