MFA to felicitate Meghalaya players in U-17 Women's Asian Cup team

Shillong, Oct 19: Two promising footballers from Meghalaya — Bonifilia Shullai and Alisha Lyngdoh, who were part of the Indian National Women’s Football Team — returned home to an emotional and grand welcome from their families and the local community.

Family members, relatives, neighbours and football enthusiasts gathered to welcome the duo with traditional shawls and flower garlands, celebrating their achievement in representing India on the international stage. The atmosphere was filled with joy and pride as the young athletes were escorted home in a celebratory procession.

Both players have been training under national-level coaching setups and were recently part of prestigious international football engagements where they showcased exceptional skill and determination, bringing recognition not only to Meghalaya but also to the northeastern region.

Speaking to local media, their families said this was a historic and inspiring moment for the youth of the village and the state. Community leaders praised the dedication of the players and assured support for young girls who aspire to take up sports professionally.

The Meghalaya Football Association will felicitate Lyngdoh and Shullai during the half-time break of the India-Iran match of the Women’s Tri-Nations Tournament on Tuesday at the JN Stadium, Polo.
The duo were members of the historic Indian squad that recently qualified for the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup China 2026. The Young Tigresses had last featured in the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup in 2005.
