
Shillong, Aug 14: High Court of Meghalaya on Monday disposed of a petition moved by former GHADC CEM Boston Marak and others challenging the Lokayukta order to charge sheet 13 persons in connection a scam in GHADC.
During the hearing of the matter, N. Rajee, counsel for the petitioners withdrew the writ application, with liberty to approach the appropriate forum. Hence the court closed the matter.
Earlier on May 18, besides Boston, the Lokayukta chargesheeted under section 7 and 12 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 , former Executive Members Mark Goera Marak, Jimbirth Marak, Levastone Sangma, Righteous Sangma, Rupert Sangma, Kenedick Marak, Dhormonath Sangma, former deputy Executive Member Winnison Marak, ex-MDC Ismail Marak, secretary GHADC Hewingson Sangma and the contractors Kubon Sangma and Nikseng Sangma.
Out of 49 projects allotted to Asanang GHADC constituency for 2017-18 at the cost of Rs 1 crore, only one graveyard shed was constructed at Balupara besides one water tank at Daljagre.
Following this, a complaint was filed before the Lokayukta by Nilberth Marak through his lawyer PT Sangma in 2019 for non- implementation of the project allotted to Asanang represented by Ismail Marak
