HC disposes of PIL on hawkers

Shillong, July 30: High Court of Meghalaya will examine the compliance report on vending zones in the city on August 20.
During the hearing of a PIL moved by Andrew Aibok Jyrwa through hisĀ counsel N. Syngkon, the petitioner sought
relocation of the hawkers/street vendors from the prime congested roadside area of the city to designated areas as provided by the government for hawking activities and to declare the main
road of Laitumkhrah, Fire brigade Point, Khyndailad (Police Bazar), G.S. Road towards Motphran to be no hawking zone;
Prafulla Kumar Boro, Chief Executive Officer of the Shillong Municipal Board has stated that the construction of the stalls will be completed by 05.08.2026
and will be handed over to the respective COV holders latest by 17.08.2026.
“Accordingly, the PIL stands disposed of
List the PIL for compliance of the assurance given by the Shillong Municipal Board”, the court added.
The next date of hearing is on August 20.
