HC relief for NEHU professor
Shillong, Nov 11:The division bench of the High Court of Meghalaya has asked NEHU authorities to consider the working days of a professor instead of declaring them as leave during Covid.
During the hearing of the petition moved by Dr Bela Keshan, a lady professor of Zoology in NEHU, the bench comprising Chief Justice IP Mukerji and Judge B Bhattacharjee, said that till the University started physical classes on October 31, 2020, the attendance of the appellant has to be regularised by treating those days she took online classes as on duty. However, the court made it clear that her absence from October 31, till her rejoining on December 11, 2020 shall not be considered as her being on duty. Her leave application has to be considered accordingly. The court hence quashed the decision dated June 30, 2021 of the Joint Registrar Establishment-II.
The court wanted the Executive Council to revisit and reconsider its resolution dated 20th December, 2020 and the decision dated 30th June, 2021 of the Joint Registrar Establishment-II and to give a reasoned decision within three months from the date of communication of the order after giving an opportunity of hearing to the appellant.
