The Meghalaya High Court had on December 2 wanted amicable resolution on the proposed relocation of 342 families of Harijan Colony from Them Iew Mawlong.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice W Diengdoh adjourned the hearing on the case and listed the matter for February 2026.

“We expect an amicable resolution of the disputes in the meantime,” the division bench said.

The bench was informed by the Advocate General that negotiations are underway to settle the disputes between the parties, and the respondents’ counsel confirmed that talks are ongoing.

“In the event the settlement could not be arrived at, the appeal may be heard on merits,” the division bench said.

Weighbridge case

The  court has directed the state government to make the weighbridge at Ratacherra in East Jaintia Hills District functional within eight weeks.

This comes after the court took note of an affidavit filed by the state respondents, which revealed that the weighbridge has been non-functional since September 2024.

“We direct the Transport Department to complete the entire process for making the said weighbridge functional positively within eight weeks from date,” the division bench comprising Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice HS Thangkhiew said in its order passed on Monday.
